Walking in a Van Gogh painting, admiring its colors live and breathing the scents of wheat: traveling in Holland and Belgium gives incomparable emotions and allows you to move through the cities painted by Rubens and Veermer. An unparalleled immersion in art and architecture.
Arrived in Amsterdam, after having collected the rental car, we advise you to head straight for the city. The capital of Holland is the perfect place to relax and have fun. If you want to fall in love with Amsterdam at first sight, we recommend you to visit Dam Square, its lively heart. Animated by street artists, full of magnificent monuments and surrounded by the best shopping streets, it is the perfect place to enjoy an aperitif, perhaps tasting different types of beers.
Amsterdam will welcome you with its cosmopolitan and elegant character. We recommend you visit the Van Gogh Museum, a tribute of the city to the Dutch artist: inside over 200 canvases and hundreds of drawings and watercolors by the famous painter. For lunch, we recommend tasting Dutch smoked eel on toast, so in the afternoon you could admire the beautiful floating flower market in Amsterdam, unique in Europe. In the evening we suggest you treat yourself to a delicious dinner by boat: a relaxing cruise will take you to discover the most suggestive places in Amsterdam from a unique perspective.
Today your destination is Antwerp, a jewel of Flemish art and the city where the painter Rubens lived, but in reaching it, if you love Vermeer we recommend you make a stop in his hometown, Delft, which boasts the production of fine blue majolica . Do not miss the Nieuwe Kerk church: in the crypt the members of the Royal House of Orange-Nassau rest and from the 109 meters high bell tower you can admire the whole city. Once in Antwerp we recommend you visit its splendid center, the cradle of history and culture. For dinner why not dare the traditional eel in green sauce?
To visit Antwerp we suggest you start from the ancient market square where you can admire the statue of Brabo, founder of the city, the elegant town hall and the Gothic Cathedral. If you want to let yourself be tempted, we suggest you try the french fries served in traditional paper containers. In the afternoon you could leave for Brugge where we recommend a boat ride along the canals: along the medieval streets and passing under the numerous bridges you can discover the most original views. For dinner you could taste the mussels cooked according to traditional recipes.
The glories of the past intertwine in harmony with the fervent modern life in Brugge. We advise you to start from Belfort, the bell tower of Piazza Markt, from which you can enjoy a magnificent panorama, before venturing into its medieval alleys. Another very fascinating stop is Gent, a medieval village full of precious jewels such as the Cathedral of San Bavone, the Metselaarshuis and the fountain of the kneeling. If, on the other hand, you go directly to Brussels, we recommend you have dinner with the symbolic dish of Belgium: the moules-frites, mussels accompanied by French fries.
The beauty of Brussels is the result, unique in the world, of the union of different arts and styles, such as art nouveau, gothic and classic. We advise you to discover the city starting from the Grand Place, surrounded by the Stadthuis, the town hall, and the Cathedral. If you love art, we recommend you visit the Royal Museum of Fine Arts which offers an enviable collection of ancient and modern paintings. After a snack in the chocolate shop, a must if you love sweets, you could visit the Magritte Museum dedicated to the surrealist painter.
It is time to go home. After the last breakfast in honor of the Belgian pastry shop, say hello to Brussels. If your departure time still gives you some time, you could take advantage of the refined and numerous shopping streets in the center to take away a souvenir from Brussels, such as a bottle of excellent craft beer or a pack of delicate pralines.
